Urban Field: electricity and water from the trees ... fake!

If the trees of the rainforests are threatened by the chainsaws of the multinationals, those of the cities are certainly not faring better: atmospheric pollution, vandalism, road accidents ... the problems linked to urban green are endless, both for citizens and for same plants. It is therefore not surprising that projects for the creation of artificial trees are multiplying all over the world. To water and economic savings (no pruning) would be added the possibility of producing clean electricity, storing rainwater and filtering the air we breathe. And there are already those who think of entire fake parks.

If the trees of the rainforests are threatened by multinational chainsaws, those in cities are certainly not doing better: air pollution, vandalism, road accidents ... the problems related to urban green they are infinite, both for citizens and for the plants themselves. It is therefore no wonder that the plans for the creation of artificial trees they are multiplying all over the world. To the water saving and that economic (no pruning) would add the possibility of producing clean electricity, store therain water and filter theair that we breathe. And there are already those who think of whole fake parks.

Treepods, for example, is the tree designed by designers mario caceres e Christian Canonico: it is a “plant” covered with a membrane that filters the air, purifying it of polluting particles. The energy needed to fuel this process is provided by children solar panels dislocated in the guise of "foliage", as well as by a kinetic system of games arranged at the base, games with which citizens can interact. In addition, the same energy produced during the day would then be used to illuminate the Treepods from inside during the hours of darkness. All using the base material recycled plastic some bottles!

But why settle for a tree only when it could be created an entire park? This is the case with the project Urban Field, finalist in the competition SHIFTBoston, which uses the piezoelectric principle to create electricity, and more. Thanks to the force of the wind, in fact, the designer's “trees” Anthony Di Mari they are able to create a potential difference following the compression of the base to which they are anchored one by one, a potential difference that is exploited to create electric current. To this not insignificant advantage must be added the possibility of accumulating rainwater and using it, in case of need, forirrigation of the surrounding greenery.

In short, the applications are endless. But a question arises: wouldn't it be simpler (and healthy and intelligent and useful and…) to take care of the plants and try to pollute less?
