The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) is suing Twinings North America for misleading advertising.

The OCA challenges the labeling, sales and marketing of products Twinings Green Tea e Green Tea with Mint, which the company markets as 100% natural but which are actually not natural.

According to the results of tests conducted by an independent laboratory, in fact, in the tea samples they were found residues of glyphosate, herbicide classified as probable carcinogen by the World Health Organization.

The analyzes, carried out using mass spectrometry, also revealed the presence of two other synthetic insecticides, both neurotoxic: it is thiacloprid, a neonicotinoid, and bifenthrin, a pyrethroid.

OCA lawsuit claims Twinings is deceiving consumers defining its products as 100% natural, so that you can make more profits, selling more than the competition and at higher prices.

Ronnie Cummins, co-founder of OCA, said:

No sensible consumer who reads the words "pure" and "100% natural ingredients" on Twinings packaging and in advertisements would expect such products to contain glyphosate residues. Consumer surveys consistently confirm the fact that health-conscious shoppers rely on labels and information online to decide on their purchases.
Twinings should either eliminate the use of pesticides on its products in order to call them 100% pure and natural, or stop claiming that they are.
