Finally, the question concerning the cases of hepatitis linked to the intake of some turmeric-based supplements, which were presumed to be contaminated, is put to an end. However, a surprise arrives from the Ministry of Health: the supplements are "clean" and are therefore completely exonerated!

Finally the question concerning the cases of hepatitis linked to the hiring of some is put to an end based supplements turmeric, which was assumed to be contaminated. However, a surprise arrives from the Ministry of Health: supplements are "clean" and are therefore completely exonerated!

Since May we have been talking to you about the situation of turmeric-based supplements, reported and / or withdrawn from the market as potentially dangerous. Since then, research has been carried out to understand whether these products are truly responsible for the dozens of cases of acute cholestatic hepatitis recorded.

Now the results of the investigations, carried out by a group of experts from the ministry on this issue have finally been revealed and, listen, the supplements had nothing to do with it, or rather, no toxic substance was found inside them, voluntarily added substances or presence of contaminants.

And so what are the cases of hepatitis attributable to? The answer of the experts speaks of 3 different causes:

    • Individual susceptibility
    • Pre-existing alterations, even latent ones, of hepato-biliary function
    • Interactions with drugs

This conclusion was reached because none of the withdrawn or reported supplements was actually found to contain contaminated substances that could explain the liver problems that appeared to people with hepatitis. It is therefore assumed that the recalls will now be lifted.

This question reminds us of something very important: supplements should not be taken lightly and even natural remedies such as turmeric can have severe side effects if someone with certain health problems, medications, or whatever is taking them.

They should always be recommended by an expert, never fall into the DIY trap with these products that can have serious repercussions on our health.

After this incident, the Ministry of Health has established that, in the future, on the labels of these supplements it will be specified very clearly that consumption is not recommended for those with impaired hepato-biliary function or gallstones. You will then be advised to consult your doctor before using the supplements, especially if you are taking any medications.

    How specify from the ministry:

"The situation will continue to be monitored closely in relation to the emergence of any new scientific elements or data to be considered in order to protect consumer safety".

As for the consumption of turmeric powder, however, no particular recommendations emerge.
