Turmeric, ally of the the memory. We had already told you about the many beneficial properties of turmeric, which have long been known in traditional medicine. Now science is confirming this. According to the latest studies, add regularly 1 gram of turmeric at the daily breakfast could reduce cognitive impairment in older people.

In particular, the reference goes to the subjects predisposed to develop the 2 type diabetes. Turmeric would have protective properties against memory and cognitive abilities. Furthermore, several scientific studies have highlighted a link between cognitive impairment and type 2 diabetes.

The experts therefore selected a very specific sample of subjects, made up of 60 patients over 60 years of age who had been diagnosed with a pre-diabetes situation with insulin resistance.

Experts have verified that the administration of 1 gram of turmeric for breakfast has improved memory skills of the patients who participated in the study, compared to those who were given a placebo.

Early intervention could be key to reducing second memory decline Mark Wahlqvist, professor emeritus of the Monash Asia Institute at Monash University. Researchers assure that a modest addition of turmeric to breakfast improves the memory performance of older people with pre-diabetes.

The new findings on turmeric are part of the observations conducted so far by science and refer to the link between cognitive decline and energy metabolism problems associated with insulin resistance. Turmeric is widely used in cooking, especially in Asia.

Its characteristic yellow color is given by the curcumin, which is present in turmeric from 3% to 6% and which, according to experimental studies, helps reduce the risk of dementia. The study in question was published in the journal Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition with the title of “Turmeric Improves Post-Prandial Working Memory in Pre-Diabetes Independent of Insulin” and has involved several Taiwanese research institutes.
