Le tree houses built by the Korowai are usually located between 6 and 12 meters above the ground, but some of them can also be located 35 meters above the ground. Houses can be built on a single tree, or have several closely spaced trees as their base. They are supported both by the branches of the trees themselves and thanks to the use of wooden poles.

The houses of the tribe are built on trees so that the families that compose it can be protected from insects present on the ground, as well as, according to traditional beliefs, from evil spirits. For the construction of tree houses, a baniano, a large evergreen tree.

The branches present in the upper part of the tree are removed and used for the construction of the floor. It is covered with palm fronds, which are also used for the creation of walls. Everything is designed so that it can be sufficiently resistant and robust, as a single house must be able to accommodate a family of up to twelve people.
