On the Vancouver Island, in Canada, are the Free Spirit Spheres, futuristic spheres suspended in the void designed by Tom Chudleigh: supported by mighty ropes and connected to the ground by wooden ladders that climb thinly between the thick branches of the trees, these houses, round like the moon, essential but welcoming, reign over the silence of the woods below giving away unusual views it's surely big emotions.
Also in Canada is the 4Treehouse designed by Lukasz Kos, a real house with a modern design, but with a discreet presence. Equipped with large spaces and structured on three floors which are accessed via steep stairs, the interior of this airy house is bright without being visible: ideal for a stay away from everything and everyone.
Also in Hawaii, a Maui, it is possible to stay overnight in close contact with nature, in real houses built on trees within a management project sustainable resources means l’organic farming, the spread of practices with low environmental impact e eco-tourism. Be warned though: here the accommodations are rustic and you cannot expect to be served with a beard and wig. But on the other hand are we sure we want it? The experience will certainly be unforgettable!
In Sweden it is worth taking a look at this very original hotel: Treehotel is located about sixty kilometers from the Arctic Circle, near the village of Harads, and was born from the idea of constructively using the beauty of the Scandinavian woods. The hotel rooms are all different from each other and built on a theme: for example there is the nest, which reproduces a bird's nest, or the more futuristic one cube of mirrors, a structure that, reflecting on each side the trees it is surrounded by, succeeds in blend in almost completely in the bush. And as in any self-respecting Swedish cabin, guests all have access to a wonderful one sauna, also rigorously built on a tree!
However, in case your intention was not to spend a short vacation among the trees, but to move to the woods, know that there are architectural firms that are even specialize in building tree houses!
It is the case of Baumraum for example, a German studio that has already built many structures in Germany like abroad. In designing these homes, architects, engineers and environmental experts collaborate to create homes that are comfortable and spacious, but which at the same time respect the surrounding nature and invite you to immerse yourself in it.
It is the same principles that also guide the work of The Treehouse Workshop, a studio of artists and architects operating in the Seattle area, but which has carried out projects on a global scale: among their creations there is a beautiful house near Washington, in the Olympic Peninsula, an a Fall City, a real wooden villa totally surrounded by greenery, or a Westchester County, where a splendid little house has been wedged in the space between three Siamese trees.
Likewise too o2Treehouse aims to designing spaces inviting people to re-establish direct contact with nature, making your own one sustainable lifestylewithout necessarily having to give up some comforts. The design of these structures is decidedly more futuristic and basically spherical, in an attempt to combine modern expectations and archaic references: the materials are simple, the spaces are bright, the impact on the surrounding environment is less consistent by virtue of the fact that they are generally hung on ropes rather than weighing directly on the trees.
In short, whether you decide to book a romantic weekend in a house suspended between centuries-old branches or you are seriously considering the possibility of moving into the woods like Thoreau, what really matters is that you do it for the pleasure of seeing again an immense and starry sky above you before going to sleep, to wake up surrounded by the soft sounds of nature, and to let yourself go at a more human pace and a lifestyle that is more respectful of the fragile balances on which we stand.
Just like these houses that rest on trees, intertwining with their centuries-old existence.
