We are in Arlena di Castro, in the province of Viterbo, a few kilometers away from the Lake Bolsena: here, the sustainable farmhouse La Piantata offers to anyone who wants to spend a quiet and comfortable holiday 4 double bedrooms, 3 apartments and 2 tree houses.
The farmhouse is owned by Renzo Stucchi, who bought an old farm and surrounding land in 1999, after having worked for over thirty years in Milan, first as a pastry chef and then as a manager in the fashion field. During the restoration of the building, an eighteenth-century farmhouse, Stucchi literally fell in love with one majestic centuries-old oak and he decided to make a childhood dream come true by building a wooden house on it.
In 2005, after having fought against the bureaucracy and having made use of the collaboration of the French architect Alain Laurens, who has designed over 300 treehouses around the world, the dream came true with the realization of a structure of 44 square meters, which rests entirely on oak. There Blue Suite it consists of a bedroom with a four-poster bed, a bathroom and a large terrace and offers an enchanting view of the hills covered in lavender.

Subsequently, Stucchi wanted to build a second tree house: this time it is about a luxurious wood and glass loft of 87 square meters, suspended 7 meters above the ground, supported by stilts and sheltered by the branches and foliage of a two-hundred-year-old maritime pine. From the terrace of the Black Cabin, the largest treehouse in Europe, you can enjoy an enviable view over the hills covered with lavender, over a centuries-old olive grove, the Cimini Mountains and the sea of Tarquinia.

At this time, however, the owners have commissioned a company specializing in the care and maintenance of ancient trees in order to assess the current phytosanitary and structural conditions of the large oak that has housed the Blue Suite for over 15 years. The results obtained show, unfortunately, that the large oak specimen is going through a period of suffering in an evolutionary phase attributable to various factors, including climate change as well as the natural life cycle of the plant itself.
They therefore decided to stop renting it until the plant shows a resilience. In the meantime, all possible interventions will be carried out in order to safeguard it, and let's enjoy at least these splendid photos.
