Clothing children: the nightmare of toxic furs is back. To give the alarm is the Ministry of Health which orders the withdrawal from the market of some garments with animal fur components that have been found to be toxic.

The stop comes after the Istituto Superiore di Sanità had assessed the risk and after the complaint of the LAV, the result of the Toxic Fur 2 investigation carried out by the same animal rights association, which again demonstrated the presence of hazardous chemicals in animal fur components some samples of children's fashion products.

Thus, the Ministry of Health ordered the withdrawal from the market of the following baby products classified as "dangerous products":

    - Hooded down jacket in rabbit fur, brand BLUMARINE BABY, for baby girl, 36 months (code 357PN11)

    - Lamb fur blanket, brand Christ, for babies (code V10004, distributor www.bellicomeilsole.com

The official tests conducted on two samples seized by the Carabinieri of the NAS, found very high levels of hexavalent chromium for the BLUMARINE BABY product (respectively 37,3 mg / kg and 27,1 mg / kg, against the maximum safety level of 3 mg / kg required by EU Regulation 301/2014).

Il Hexavalent chromium is a known carcinogen and can cause allergic reactions, such as contact eczema, in hypersensitive individuals. In addition, the BLUMARINE BABY garment features a high concentration of Trivalent Chromium (which can be absorbed through sweat), 168mg / kg against the 18mg / kg recommended by the ISS to avoid the onset of skin sensitizing effects.

Also for the baby blanket, made entirely of lamb fur, alarming values of trivalent chromium, 35mg / kg, were recorded.

For the D&G and Woolrich branded items, on the other hand, again reported by LAV in the Toxic Fur 2 survey, the Ministry was unable to carry out official tests due to the unavailability of the garments in the inspections carried out by the NAS.

Toxic Fur 2 tests had detected the following hazardous substances:

WOOLRICH (24 months baby parka, with raccoon-dog fur), code 07 8055683648348

WKCPS1746, Trivalent chromium extractable from sweat 86 mg / kg, Formaldehyde 96 mg / kg.

    D&G (36-month girl coat, with rabbit fur), code 31 L51C23 FU2J5 S8292 MELANGE

GRAY, Hexavalent chromium 3,5 mg / kg, Trivalent chromium (CR III) extractable from sweat 219 mg / kg.

With the first Toxic Fur survey in 2013, LAV obtained a temporary stop on the sale of other products for children with animal fur (of the brands IL GUFO, BRUMS, MISS BLUMARINE, MINIFIX, GUCCI) which then became definitive for some of them, of which it was possible to carry out official tests (Il GUFO, BRUMS, MISS BLUMARINE).

Beyond the toxicity of these garments, for us the logic ofethics of what we wear (also) to our children. Behind this type of clothing is the horror of raising, trapping and killing animals for fur production.

Renounce, for the whole family, the purchase of garments with fur inserts and avoid as much as possible the shops that sell articles decorated in fur.
