    New shock survey on the correlation between fur and toxicity risk for children's health. The eco-toxicological tests carried out in Denmark by the Anima association on some children's clothes (conducted by the German laboratory Intertek) revealed the presence of toxic and carcinogenic substances coming from the processes to which animal furs are subjected.

    The items analyzed are produced by very popular brands in Denmark: Canada Goose, snow suit (for 18-24 months old baby); Ver de Terre, complete snow (18 months); Sofie Schnoor, outerwear (4 years); Bahne, hat (3 years); Bahne, jacket (for adult); Modström, jacket (adult). In the components in fur, the tests revealed the presence of the following substances:

    • FORMALDEHYDE, which causes allergies and is carcinogenic (present in all articles);
    • TRIVALENT CHROME, which can cause allergies (found in 4 out of 6 articles);
    • CHROME HEXAVALENT, a known carcinogen (found in 2 of 6 articles);
    • AROMATIC POLYCYCLIC HYDROCARBONS (found in 2 of 6 articles).

    “It is scary to know that clothes made for children can contain many chemical and toxic substances. I don't think there are many parents who are aware of this. The best thing to protect yourself is, of course, to avoid fur - explains Joh Vinding of Anima, adding: “Community legislation on chemicals has been criticized for not having protected enough citizens' health and, therefore, it is up to the corporate conscience to limit or eliminate the use of these. chemical substances, as far as possible - regardless of the legislation ".

    These are similar outcomes to those of the two their investigation "Toxic Fur", the second of which, released by LAV last December 15, revealed the presence of toxic and carcinogenic substances in baby clothes by D&G (36 months, hexavalent chromium and high trivalent chromium values), Blumarine Baby (36 months, formaldehyde and high trivalent chromium values), Woolrich (24 months, formaldehyde, high trivalent chromium and nonylphenol ethoxylated values).

    Following the previous investigation conducted by LAV in 2013, the Ministry of Health intervened by temporarily blocking the sale of the garments under investigation (of the Il Gufo, Miss Blumarine, Fix Design, Gucci, Brums brands) and subsequently issuing definitive withdrawal from the market.

    “Fur production often involves the use of chemicals that are classified as toxic and carcinogenic. It is inevitable that on the finished product, purchased and worn, residues of these substances may be found in concentrations that are also dangerous for people's health - comments Simone Pavesi, LAV Fur Campaign Manager - for this reason we urge the Ministry of Health to provide certain answers for consumers ".

    The tested garments are in fact still available on the market, with a possible risk to the health of citizens, in this case, children.
