Someone has in fact thought of carrying out a resistance test, choosing tofu as the main material for making one chair, rightly baptized Tofu Chair.
Several one-serving tofu loaves were dehydrated and used for the creation of a chair, by Leonardo Talarico. The chair was witty baptized as the ideal throne for vegetarians. Indeed, it seems that dried tofu has proved to be a highly resistant material, suitable for the creation of such a piece of furniture, which must be able to support more or less substantial weights.
One might wonder why Talarico wanted to experiment with the creation of a chair starting from an unusual material such as tofu. It seems to have been a real one challenge. An edible and soft substance such as tofu, a food able to make itself more appreciable by absorbing the flavors of the foods that accompany it, has proved to be particularly adaptable also from the point of view of design.
By dehydrating each block of tofu, the designer was able to obtain numerous pieces to be used in the construction of the chair's structure. After thedrying, the tofu loaves have been subjected to thermal shock, in order to make them even more resistant. In this way, an easily usable structural material is obtained. The tofu was superimposed layer by layer to create the chair. A final coat of color completed this decidedly original work, which can help us rethink the possible materials to be used for the creation of furnishing objects.
