When and how to prune roses? Winter pruning is essential to make the most luxuriant roses bloom again in spring
As far as roses are concerned, we usually talk about two or three prunings: one winter pruning it's a summer pruning, plus one, if any, autumn pruning. Winter pruning of roses usually takes place in the middle of winter, before the plant develops new buds.

When to prune roses

If the branches have grown a lot during the spring and summer, you can shorten them with sharp scissors. The cut scar, if it is very large, can be covered with pruning putty.
