TikTok's craze for chlorophyll water is a little bogus: what to eat to really consume the superfood

On TikTok there are videos that recommend chlorophyll water, in reality to get the maximum benefits it is good to consume green vegetables

On TikTok there are videos that recommend taking liquid chlorophyll or chlorophyll water to gain health and solve some small problems such as acne and pimples on the face. But is it really so? Or would it be better to eat foods that naturally contain it instead?

TikTok is full of more or less valid advice in terms of health and well-being. For some time some videos have gone viral that explain how and why to use liquid chlorophyll, or drops or tablets of this pigment to be dissolved in water.

Why exactly chlorophyll? Some researches have found that this substance, essential for plants, actually also provides various benefits for human health: it has antioxidant, purifying, antimicrobial properties, is useful for rebalancing the bacterial flora of the intestine, promotes digestion, is rich in vitamins and much more.

Sometimes, however, the way and the form in which we take a substance is also important and it is not certain that choosing a chlorophyll supplement is the best solution.

Chlorophyll water, in fact, that emerald green drink that you see on TikTok and promises so many benefits, is actually downsized by experts, who remind us to be wary of "miraculous remedies".

In this case the speech is very simple: the liquid chlorophyll that appears in the form of dye on TikTok, is an extraction of the chlorophyll found in dark green plants. But the benefits of taking this substance in such a form are by no means clear and secure.

It is certainly not a dangerous remedy but, as Dr. Vikki Petersen, expert in functional medicine, chiropractic and clinical nutritionist said:

There is no overwhelming research to support the use of isolated chlorophyll ingestion in liquid or tablet form. Eat real vegetables with all the combined components of fiber, phytonutrients and antioxidants, it far surpasses a chlorophyll tablet or powder.

How to take chlorophyll correctly?

In short, why buy a chlorophyll supplement when we can get the maximum benefits simply by filling up on foods that contain it naturally? Among other things, supplements should always be taken by first hearing the opinion of your doctor.

The nutritionist Flavio Pettirossi had explained to us all the benefits of chlorophyll and listed the foods that contain it the most.

  • The nutritionist's trick to get the most out of chlorophyll benefits

"Chlorophyll is contained in all green vegetables, but those in which it is present in greater quantities are:

  • Spinaci
  • Parsley
  • Green peppers
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Mustard
  • Broccoli
  • Lettuce
  • Chlorella
  • Spirulina
  • arugula (rocket salad)
  • Green olives

What about the effects of chlorophyll on acne and pimples?

Petersen argues that used topically, it could actually help (given its antimicrobial power) in the treatment of acne and have beneficial anti-aging effects even after sun exposure (this obviously is no excuse not to use the creams. solar).
