The WWF in fact noted that in Emilia Romagna citizens are not following the guidelines for the correct and effective use of insecticides issued by the region. Emilia Romagna has also implemented preventive interventions with respect to the tiger mosquito, but companies entrusted by condominiums or groups of residents have started to act out of control, putting the life of useful insects, already in danger of survival, at risk, starting by bees.
Unfortunately, according to the WWF, the reckless use of insecticides against the tiger mosquito has negative effects because it kills a large part of the fauna present in urban green areas (bees, beetles, fireflies, butterflies and even lizards, confirming the fact that the action of the poisons delivered affects a very broad spectrum of living organisms), risks to public health, high costs and possible increase in the resistance of the most invasive insects.
"Precisely for these reasons, the guidelines of the Region restrict adulticidal interventions to only cases of health emergency due to the risk of transmitting diseases and establish various prescriptions for disinfestations in public areas, including the obligation to request local health companies" - WWF Emilia Romagna explained in a note.

Therefore, the WWF asks that interventions carried out by individual citizens or private companies also fall under the control of public authorities and asks everyone to monitor and demand from those who carry out the disinfestation the requisites required from the “Guidelines for the correct use of adulticide treatments against mosquitoes” (read here the document of the Emilia Romagna Region).

Finally, the environmental association strongly asks the municipalities to prepare all the measures envisaged for the prevention, starting from the control of the larvae in early spring and the spread of correct behavior in the citizenship.
To defend ourselves, we experiment with tricks to become invisible to mosquitoes and prepare a do-it-yourself mosquito repellent with essential oils. Instead, we avoid insecticides that can be harmful to the environment, to our health and to beneficial insects.
