Research conducted by the psychiatrist Ira Driscoll was published in The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences and claims that taking 261 milligrams of caffeine per day, that is the content present in three cups of espresso, could prevent disorders related to senile dementia.

The research was attended by 6.500 female volunteers over the age of 65 for a long time; the data that emerged showed the difference between those who consume only one cup of coffee per day (equal to 64 milligrams of caffeine) and those who drink three. The latter would have the 36% less likely to get sick of patologie neurodegenerative.
“Caffeine - the study reads - has a protective effect on cognitive functions. Although the literature speaks little about it, some reviews suggest a possible favorable relationship between caffeine consumption and cognitive impairment or senile dementia.
