Drinking lots of water every day is good for you because it allows the body to hydrate itself and at the same time purify itself by eliminating toxins. New research has highlighted a new advantage: the more you drink, the less you eat foods rich in sugars and saturated fats, thus reducing your daily calorie intake.

Drinking lots of water every day is good for you because it allows the body to hydrate and at the same time purify itself by eliminating toxins. We had already advised you to drink two liters of water daily but now new research has highlighted a new advantage: the more you drink, the less you eat foods rich in sugars and saturated fats and thus reduces the daily calorie intake.

According to the research, published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, very little is enough: even just 1% more water per day can make a difference. Increasing the consumption of this liquid essential to our survival has been linked to a reduced daily calorie intake and above all to a reduction in the consumption of saturated fat, sugar, sodium and cholesterol.

The studio has analyzed the eating habits of over 18 American adults for seven years observing that those who had increased the amount of water they consumed from one to three cups a day saw their daily intake of sodium reduced from 78 to 235 milligrams, sugar from 5 grams to almost 18 grams and cholesterol from 7 to 21 milligrams. In terms of calories, these decreased on average from 68 to 205 per day.

Certainly not insignificant data, especially if they are added to this other essential elements for health such as eating healthy and exercising regularly. But the good news doesn't stop there. There is no need to drink mineral water, the one flowing from the tap is perfect in this sense. In fact, the study participants drank only the so-called "Water of the mayor" taken directly from the tap, from the fountain or collected in a bottle.

Decreases in calories, sodium, sugar and cholesterol were greatest in men than women, and in middle-aged adults rather than the elderly. The explanation for this would be in the fact that these categories have a higher energy intake throughout the day.

That said what are you waiting for to drink a good glass of water?
