The inspiring story of Malick Ndiaye who learned about the stars from an old book and built his telescope from recycled materials.

Malick Ndiaye, a 13-year-old Senegalese student, is aiming for the stars. In fact, his great curiosity and passion for constellations led him to build his own telescope using recycled materials wisely including glasses, beverage cans, wire and cardboard.

Unleashing the magic and fueling Malick's curiosity towards the sky and the Earth was "All the universe", an old book that his father, a curious man who loved to read and watch documentaries, had received as a gift from Abdou Diouf, former president of Senegal, when he was his driver.

Among constellations, nebulae, stars and planets, his fascination with astronomy honed his wits and made him create his telescope with what he found. So, by putting together some old eyeglasses from his father, the lens of an old camera, some cans, a thread, a cardboard, he managed to build it in just two weeks.

When I focused on the night sky and saw the details of the Moon's surface, I felt like I could touch it with my hand, ”Malick said in an interview.

Faced with the young man's passion, many appeals were launched to help him along this path. The news also reached Maram Kaire, Senegalese astronomer and president of the Senegalese Association for the Promotion of Astronomy - ASPA, who donated an astronomical telescope to the young talent, promising to explain everything he knows.

He filled me with emotion (…) we will follow him and we hope that the stellar virus will infect other young, future scientists ”, declares Maram Kaire in a post on Facebook.

Good evening everyone, I present to you Malick NDIAYE, a young Senegalese researcher, living in the Diourbel region, 12 years old and a student in CM2 class.
