The bond that has been established between the two 4-legged friends is unique.

Unfortunately, life presents really difficult trials, moments that can only be overcome thanks to affection. It is the story of Tao, a 12-year-old Golden Retriever who unfortunately had his eyes removed surgically due to glaucoma, triggered by a disease that causes damage to the optic nerve.

A terrible condition for an animal that has always been used to running and playing in the open air. Hoping to improve her quality of life, her human friend, Melanie Jackson, has decided to welcome a new member into the family. She adopted Oko, an 8 week old Golden Retriever puppy. The spark immediately took off between the two furry friends.

We took Oko when she was only 8 weeks old. A very sweet relationship has been created between them. Tao follows Oko around the fields and they sleep together embraced.

    says Melanie.

Having a puppy as a best friend and guide gave Tao a new lease on life and his mood improved.

Oko is great, he drives Tao and that gave him the confidence to play and run. Immediately after the operation, Tao followed my scent, but he was sad because he loved to run free and play like when he was a sighted dog. Now Oko accompanies him everywhere and they have formed a beautiful bond.

From playing together to sleeping next to each other, Tao and Oko do pretty much everything together. And now that Oko is growing up, he's getting used to his leading role.

Both friends are on an educational path: Tao is being trained to follow the smell of Oko and Oko is learning to respond to the like “stop, wait, go right, go left”, to hone his skills.

Glaucoma can be prevented if it's diagnosed early, so Jackson is now working with The Kennel Club in hopes of helping other dogs. The organization is able to analyze the DNA of Tao in order to be able to identify in advance the predisposition to this disease in other specimens.
