A small coastal town in the United States has launched a virtuous initiative to prevent the onset of skin cancer in the population: installing (free!) Distributors of sunscreen to entice everyone to use it correctly.

'Don't Fry Day' was celebrated on May 28th - a day, organized by the National Council On Skin Cancer Prevention, dedicated to raising awareness of the damage caused to the skin by reckless exposure to sunlight: the onset of cancer skin is getting higher in the United States, with 3,3 million new diagnoses every year. This is why it is important to take prevention, even on beaches where - thanks to the heat and the desire to get a tan - people tend to engage in irresponsible behaviors that can have serious consequences on their health.

For this reason, the municipality of Old Orchard Beach (in Maine) has launched an interesting initiative: installing sunscreen dispensers at various points in the city to try to prevent the onset of skin diseases related to sun exposure. The project was born in collaboration with Impact Melanoma, a non-profit association which aims to educate in the prevention of skin cancers. Everyone is encouraged to cover themselves in sunscreen to protect themselves from sun damage.

This year, sunscreen dispensers have been installed in the nerve centers of the city - such as the Chamber of Commerce, the police department, the City Hall; in addition, other portable distributors will be placed in other areas of the city and will remain there until autumn.

We have made great progress in this community and have helped raise awareness of the importance of protecting skin in the great state of Maine. Together we can save many lives and create a beneficial 'wave' effect - explains the executive director of Impact Melanoma, Deb Girard. - Each institution in the city has its own cream dispenser to remind staff that skin health is important and that we need to apply the cream before leaving the house. It only takes a few minutes to protect our skin for hours. Cancer has affected each of us in some way, and skin cancer is the most prevalent.
