These solar shingles can be mounted on houses like normal roofs. And they provide energy

Solar tiles are coming that nail one to the other, forming the roof of the house "directly". For now only in the US

Solar energy directly from the roof? The solution could be the one proposed by Gap Energy: solar tiles that nail one to the other, forming "directly" the roof of the house.

It is certainly not the first attempt at a solar roof: even Tesla had launched an option that promised efficiency and simplicity just over two years ago. But it still consisted of photovoltaic panels integrated into the structure. And in general, all the solutions proposed previously required at least some tracks on which to mount the tiles.

What we are talking about now is a solar tile already built to constitute the piece of roof, to be nailed with the next one to form the upper protection net of the house.

Timberline Solar ™ protects and installs like a normal roof - the company's website reads - And it also has a nice design: sleek and uniform lines, no bulky solar panels, just tiles that protect your home and generate clean electricity. It's an energy roof. It's very simple

This mechanism would also greatly reduce assembly times, from weeks to a few days.

We got it already installed in two daysincluding dismantling of the old roof and installation of the new one

Martin DeBono, president of Gaf Energy, explains to The Verge

According to company management, Timberline Solar are the first products to receive UL 7103 certification to serve from both solar panels and building materials, thanks to a special glass sandwich, polysilicon solar cells and a top layer of a patented fluorinated ethylene alkane polymer that is fire retardant, impact resistant and hail resistant, structured to be walked on and still transparent enough to let light through.

Is everything perfect then? Obviously not, there is the "but".

It will cost as if you had to get a new roof and put solar power on it - explains DeBono again. But since there are far more people building new roofs than adding solar to existing ones - 5 million per year versus 300.000 per year - there is a Big chance for someone to add integrated renewable energy

So let's imagine that the costs may indeed be higher.

The new Timberline solar panels are now available on the east coast of the United States and Texas, but not yet in California or Florida. It will take about 90 days to be listed by the California Energy Commission and perhaps four to five months for Florida.

We do not yet know if and when we will be able to see them in Europe.
