These are the foods you should never put in the air fryer

The air fryer is a very useful appliance in the kitchen, but be careful: not all dishes can be prepared with this cooking method

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

We have often talked to you about the air fryer, a new "object of desire" for those who do not want to give up the taste of tasty dishes but at the same time try to cook in a healthy and low-fat way. This small appliance, in fact, works like a small oven, allowing you to cook dishes quickly and without drying them, so that they retain their taste and juiciness.

From fries to chicken, from vegetables to fish, there are so many recipes that can be prepared thanks to the air fryer - both sweet and savory. But be careful though: cooking in an air fryer is not ideal for all preparations. In fact, there are foods or preparations that “fail” if cooked in the fryer, and because of which we risk making a mess inside the basket which will then be difficult to clean.

"Mix" foods

Foods covered with batter, liquid or thick, should never be cooked in the air fryer. Unlike traditional frying in oil, in fact, air frying does not allow the sudden formation of the crust typical of battered or tempura foods.

The vegetables or chicken inside the batter will cook, thanks to the action of the boiling air that circulates in the basket, but the batter will slide towards the bottom of the fryer, splashing all over the place and then forcing us to do a deep cleaning. of the whole appliance.

For the same reason, we also avoid battered foods purchased frozen, such as pancakes or breaded mozzarella.

Too moist foods

The reason we can't cook gravy-laden dishes is the same as for batters. The boiling air inside the fryer will push the liquid towards the bottom, and this will be doubly counterproductive: on the one hand we will have food cooked without sauce, and therefore drier; on the other hand we will have the whole basket dirty with sauce to clean up.

Too big foods

Another problem with cooking in the air fryer is the size of the food. Given the very short cooking time and the high temperature that is reached inside the basket, foods that are too large cannot cook optimally, becoming well cooked on the outside and still being raw inside.

If we want to cook chicken, for example, instead of cooking it whole, we can opt for small legs or morsels, with faster cooking. Likewise, we avoid putting a whole roast beef in the fryer basket because it will never cook.

In general, we put limited quantities of food in the basket (even if portioned) so as not to overload the appliance and ensure that everything is cooked in the best way. If there are many of us at the table eating, it is better to opt for other cooking methods - such as cooking in the oven or in a pan.
