In some very touching and at the same time very current pages, Tiziano Terzani talks about the bond with his wife and how important their story was for his life. He speaks of love as of a profound feeling that seems rare to find nowadays because every relationship is consumed too quickly. Husbands and boyfriends become disposable for those who are no longer able to cultivate lasting and sincere relationships.
Terzani explains that he was lucky enough to meet his wife in his wife twin soul and that he found a formula to keep their relationship alive for over 40 years, despite the work that kept him away from both her and their children for long periods.
Here then is that Terzani says he has found a real one balance between long absences and periods of presence. In the weeks he spent in the war zones, he collected experiences to tell his wife to his children when he returned home.
"I must say that everyone must find his formula in love: mine was this, but it is not repeatable, please, and do not think that everything I want to say to you tonight is the formula for life, or the solution for peace. "
Terzani underlines in his speech that he does not have formulas or answers for all the problems in the world but that he only has questions. When he did the war correspondent in Vietnam, he could not take his family with him, because it was too dangerous. Then his wife and children were waiting for him in Singapore. He was gone for two or three weeks and then came home. Great presences and great detachments: this is his formula to keep love alive.
In his speech on love Terzani it is especially aimed at young people, in poignant words that we all should consider:
“Please rediscover the voice of the heart, the head is beautiful, the head is important, but the reason is not everything! We must listen to the heart and the heart speaks with the same voice. Muslims, Christians, Hottentots, the heart is the same everywhere. There is no Eastern heart and Western heart, there is no Eastern psyche and Western psyche: we are inside the psyche which is the same everywhere. Life is one, one! This little extraordinary life is part of a wonderful thing, of the universe ... "
Finally, his rediscovered words remind us that love is sometimes a great joy, other times a great suffering and much more, so much so that we are not able to express it differently, if not precisely with the word 'love'.
Love is not synonymous with vulnerability or weakness, it can become a real strength, so why are so many people so afraid of falling in love and saying 'I love you'? Who knows what reflections on love our life will lead us to as the years go by ...
