The project was recently completed in Spain. This is an original vertical garden which graces the locality of Vitoria-Gasteiz. This city in the Basque Country had received the appointment of European Capital 2012 for the Environment. Vitoria Gasteiz had stood out among the names of much better-known capitals for having given life to policies in favor of reducing water consumption and for the protection of green areas.

Now the Basque city confirms its dedication to the environment, giving life to one special vertical garden. The new installation has the characteristic shape of a tree. It was designed and built by urbanism e UnusualGreen. The trunk of the tree, built with metal materials, hides an irrigation system that conducts water towards the pots that are located on the branches.

Now the tree looks rather bare, but the seedlings will soon grow and form a proper one foliage. The vertical garden was created to embellish one of the buildings overlooking the town square. The water pipe structure is composed just like a tree trunk, bringing nourishment to the branches.

The plant pots have been specially designed according to a new system that will allow them to develop to create the crown of the tree. The external structure of the tree is supported by a hidden network which does not damage the historic building that houses the vertical garden.

Numerous varieties of plants have been arranged on the branches of the tree, so that their leaves and flowers alternate throughout the year. They are included climbing and evergreen plants. Among them we find ivy and vine, but also hops and honeysuckle. The vertical garden will be completed with the installation of a fertilization system which will be able to provide plants with all the nutrients in the necessary quantities and at the most appropriate times.
