The trick "revealed" on TikTok to have white sheets and towels without using bleach

    The trick

On TikTok a video "reveals" what to use instead of bleach to make sheets and towels shine without polluting

Who doesn't love sleeping in clean, sparkling white sheets as well as having towels that are always impeccable and as good as new? Unfortunately, it is not really easy to whiten clothes without using very polluting ingredients such as bleach. However, a user on TikTok reveals a simple "trick" (which we actually already knew very well) to whiten in an ecological way.

Instead of buying a special whitening product at the supermarket, we can consider a decidedly more ecological option, proposed by a TikTok video made by Kate, known on social media as @my_plastic_free_home.

What do you use to whiten the sheets? Of the simple sodium percarbonate (not to be confused with sodium bicarbonate), a product that we too have recommended several times for its cleansing and whitening power.

As Kate remembers in the video:

Sodium percarbonate, or natural bleach as I like to call it, is an eco-friendly product that stays active for a few hours while it does its job, and then breaks down into oxygen, water, and soda ash with no environmental impact.

    * Add 30g (1/4 cup) to your normal washing * Add 60g (1/2 cup) to about 5l hot water and leave your washing to soak for a few hours. Then put on a quick rinse cycle and hang out to dry#myplasticfreehome#greencleaning#ecofriendlycleaning#ecofriendlycleaningproducts#ecocleaning#ecofriendlyliving#ecoconscious#sodiumpercarbonate#oxygenbleach #cleantok #ecotips #ecohacks

The video shows us how a good old-fashioned soaking with sodium percarbonate (half a cup in 5 liters of water) can restore clothes to their natural whiteness. If you want to use it in the washing machine, Kate recommends adding a quarter cup of baking soda.

To make everything even more effective, it is good to dry the clothes in the sun, also exploiting the whitening power of natural light.

The video shows the before and after: a stained and yellow cloth turns into sparkling white thanks to the percarbonate. Seeing is believing!
