    In most cases, the toilet flushesdrinking water and where this resource is scarce it is indeed a waste.

    The problem does not only concern the home toilet but also public toilets where the use of water becomes incalculable.

    In this context, the INTI Sustainable Technologies Program has worked on the design and implementation of sustainable health systems including waterless toilets and urinals.

    These systems are designed to provide adequate sanitation even to the population that does not have one connection to the sewer network.

    At first glance the waterless toilets they resemble ordinary toilets or urinals but in reality they are different because they do not retain bad odors and are easy to clean despite not using the classic toilet flush.

    In fact, they contain special substances, such as a liquid with a density lower than urine which prevents the spread of bad odors. The production cost is the same as that of traditional toilets, with the possibility of using materials available locally.

    Waterless toilets are already being used in the United States, Germany and elsewhere in the world in public areas. Now the focus is on spreading to Argentina in the poorest areas.



    In general i ecological toilets allow save water and to add to this the already known technology of toilet compostante to obtain organic fertilizer through anaerobic digestion.
