On the run to freedom. There are fourteen examples of Macachi Yakushima who fled, this morning around 10.10am, Japanese time, from the Okinawa Zoo and Museum in Japan.

The news comes from the same officials of the structure. Inside the zoo, which is located in the southernmost part of Japan, we can find not only macaques, but other types of animals such as elephants, giraffes and hippos.

During the usual patrol tour, officials noticed that all of the facility's Yakushima macaques, a subspecies of the Japanese macaque or snow monkey, had disappeared from the enclosures they were confined to.

At the moment the zoo is closed and is researching the macaques. Two of them were in fact tracked down around 11:40 am and returned to captivity.

These two macaques certainly did not have the same fate as Kuimba and Mayombe, the gorilla duck 9 and 12 year old female, born in the Beauval zoo, in France and who will luckily be reintroduced into their natural habitat instead in a forest in Gambon, in Central Africa.
