There are many little-known love stories that happened on the Titanic, such as that of Ann Elizabeth Isham and her dog.

In April 1912, Ann Elizabeth Isham and her great Dane were due to arrive from Cherbourg to New York on the ship then called "the safest in the world": the Titanic. Unfortunately, after the impact with an iceberg, the tragedy we all know happened, and most of the passengers lost their lives, including Ann and her dog.

But the story of this Titanic passenger could have been another. When the ship began to sink, people traveling first class, such as Ann, were the first to be accommodated in the lifeboats. She was already seated, she had a place and a hope to save herself, however, the love she felt for her four-legged friend, who was denied access to the boat due to its large size, made her decide more difficult than his life.

In the lifeboats, human lives took priority over those of dogs and so Ann decided to return to the Titanic to be reunited with her faithful friend. She was one of four first-class passengers who lost their lives on April 15, 1912 after the sinking of the Titanic. It is hypothesized that among the bodies found floating in the Atlantic Ocean was that of a woman who was hugging a dog's neck.

Having a dog on board already demonstrated the privileges and the difference between travelers, in fact only first class passengers could bring their own pets. According to an exhibition at the Widener University Art Gallery in Pennsylvania made in 2012, 12 dogs traveled in the Titanic, but there is no denying the possibility that other passengers also secretly brought their four-legged friends, therefore without registering them.

Unfortunately, only three of the twelve confirmed dogs aboard the condemned ocean liner survived the tragedy: two Pomeranian dogs and a Pekingese.

Although no evidence has been found to confirm the facts, neither have they been found to contradict it. The story of Ann Elizabeth Isham and the great love she had for her dog has managed to fascinate many people, becoming a legend symbol of love for animals.
