It is the story of the adventurous cow, which last autumn chose to live free in the forests of Poland, wandering with her wild "cousins".
When she escaped from the farm, everyone thought she would return to her usual pastures, with her domestic herd, once the harsh winter arrived.
But this was not the case and the animal remained with the 50 bison.
It was recently sighted by bison expert Rafal Kowalczyk, director of the Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences:
“It's not uncommon to see a bison near Bialowieza Forest, but one animal caught my attention. It was a light brown hue, completely different from the rest of the herd. Bison are dark brown. With the binoculars I saw that, in fact, it was a cow. She appeared healthy and fully accepted by other wild animals. Of course, she is not fully integrated into the group, as the bison herd behaves like a single organism, while she stands out, ”explains the expert.
But the very presence of the pack kept her safe from wolves throughout the winter.
It is the first documented case of this type. It has now been 3 months since his escape. 3 months of freedom and full cognition.
What a heroine, this brave cow.
