    The inhabitants of Palencia know something about it, who in recent days have found themselves having to deal with highly questionable "artistic tweaks".

    The restoration of the facade of number 9 of Calle Mayor practically destroyed the face of a figure representing the body of a woman.

    “It's more like a cartoon head than the artistic head of one of Palencia's most emblematic buildings,” local painter Antonio Guzman Capel wrote indignantly on Facebook, complete with before and after images of the unfortunate statue.

    "In Palencia, the cradle of artists - he writes - someone created this masterpiece, the new Christ of Borja (the famous Ecce Homo de Borja restored by Cecilia Giménez in 2012), but the person who commissioned it transformed it into a character of cartoons ".

    Capel refers to an event that occurred in 2012, when an elderly Spanish parishioner offered to restore the precious fresco “Ecce homo” by artist Elias Garcia Martinez, which is located on a wall of the church of Borja. Even in that case the result was disastrous, so much so that the work in question was nicknamed “Monkey Christ”:

    The building, built in 1919 and inaugurated in 1923, is one of the most iconic in the city center of Palencia and is currently home to a branch of the Unicaja bank. The owners have yet to comment on the criticisms leveled at its restoration.



    Art lovers (but also those who understand little) are shocked after seeing the questionable "restylings". Is it possible that we cannot rely on expert hands?
