The humanitarian association calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities to ensure a better future for thousands of little Ukrainians

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

A little more than twenty-four hours have passed since the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military forces, ed there is already a refugee emergency throughout the country: thousands of people are leaving their homes, abandoning their objects and their everyday life forever, in search of a possibility of salvation.

The first victims of so much violence are children, little innocent spectators who suddenly find themselves in an upside-down world made of fear, anguish, bombings at all hours, cold and poor food, dirt, nights spent crammed together with many strangers in air-raid shelters. Too soon they had to say goodbye to childhood, to games, to school, to little friends - even to their fathers, who had left for compulsory military service. They had to say goodbye to their future, their dreams, the hopes and expectations that their children's hands had placed in the drawer of Tomorrow.

The humanitarian association Save the Children raises a dramatic alarm: more than seven and a half million minors are at risk of suffering the harshest consequences of this war in the heart of Europe: estrangement from parents, displacement, physical damage and trauma psychological. The area most at risk, according to the association, is the eastern region of the country: there live about 400.000 children who are exposed to artillery fire and bomb explosions and who risk being victims of the conflict between the Russian and Ukrainian armies.

Ukrainian children are innocent, but they are trapped in the crossfire of this adult-willed war. It should never have come to this - he said Irina Saghoyan, Save the Children director for Eastern Europe. - Our most immediate concern is the risk to their health and well-being. In conflicts, anything is possible: death, injury, sexual violence, security risks. The children are terrified. They are hearing explosions, they are asked to escape with only their clothes on. The risk to their mental health and the potential for long-term trauma cannot be underestimated.

The victims of a war are not only the soldiers who fell at the front or those who died in the bombings: these little ones have lost their innocence, their eyes reflect the glare of the bombs and the terror of their parents who realize they no longer know how. protect them.

Tonight, when we settle in bed on a soft mattress, under warm blankets and scented sheets, we turn a thought to these innocent little souls, who have seen their world destroyed in a matter of hours and who now no longer have a home, no more. they have more bed, they no longer have a hot plate or a clean dress. Let's think about them, and how much the unjust war of adults is stealing their future, and also the present.
