The story of the nine ended sadly sperm whales that last Thursday they beached on the Apulian coasts, in the province of Foggia, exactly on the beach of Capojale. Two days after the death of the last two cetaceans, which took place on Sunday, in addition to asking countless questions about the causes of their disorientation, we now ask ourselves what their end will be.

A summit held at the prefecture of Foggia and conslusosi yesterday established that the carcasses of poor mammals will be dissected, deprived of the entrails (which will be incinerated) and subsequently buriedinside two quarries of the Gargano. But first the autopsy and other tests will try to find the answers on the causes of the stranding.

For its part, the Province of Foggia has expressed the will of host one of the cetacean skeletons at a museum. “The goal - said the president of the Province Anthony Pepe - is to preserve the carcasses of sperm whales as much as possible both so that they can be available for research by biologists and because one day one of the skeletons could be housed in one of our museums. We still don't know which could be the best location because we are talking about animals even over ten meters long ".

In any case, after burying the sperm whales it will be necessary to wait from six months to a year. The local local health authorities have requested the utmost attention, especially in verifying the possible presence of aquifers in the quarries. In fact, the waters would risk being contaminated by the remains of cetacean carcasses.
