The roofs of the taxis become urban gardens. Unemployed taxi drivers in Bangkok use cars to grow vegetables

In Bangkok, many taxi drivers have lost their jobs due to the pandemic, who have decided to use their cars as vegetable gardens.

What if cars had a positive ecological impact for once? As surprising as it may seem, the roofs and hoods of hundreds of taxis in Bangkok have been used as vegetable gardens for growing different types of vegetables.

Due to the significant decline in tourism in Thailand, due to the strict rules imposed in the country following the pandemic, the company Boworn Taxi Cooperative has lost its main customers. Many taxi drivers have had to return to the villages, abandoning their cars.

So in the west of the city, in an open parking lot, some employees have decided to give a second life to the 200 abandoned cars. During the monsoon rainy season they came up with the idea of transforming car roofs into vegetable gardens, where aubergines, peppers, courgettes and even basil now grow.
