the photographer captured a jaw-dropping image of the mysterious animal, while it appears to be the shadow of its partner
He is about to end up run over, his mother saves himSince 2014, director and wildlife photographer Mithun H has been trying to spot Saya, a black panther who has eluded her admirers in India's Kabini Forest for years.
After camping in the area for days, the photographer captured a jaw-dropping image of the mysterious animal, as it appears to be the shadow of its mate, the female leopard named Cleopatra.
The legendary and rare black panther is not a species in itself, but a taxonomic title (from the genus Panthera) under which we mean several felines characterized by melanism, that is the mutation of a recessive gene: African and Asian leopards, jaguars in South America and (very rarely) puma in North America.
In practice, they have the typical patches of the coat, but they are not seen because they are darkened by melanin. Melanism is common in jaguars, but rare in leopards.
This is why the sighting is even more extraordinary! The couple has been observed together for four years.
