The Park of Distance: the project that allows you to stay distant and reconnect with nature in the city

Thanks to its structure, the park allows you to remain immersed in nature even in an urban context, distant from others and connected with yourself

Those who have experienced this long lockdown in the city, with closed parks and the absence of accessible green spaces, have probably suffered even more from isolation than those who live in the countryside, and perhaps have understood more fully the importance of contact with nature.

In addition to the lack of human contacts, in fact, citizens have also seen themselves deprived of the possibility of live green spaces, absent or inadequate.

The benefits related to contact with nature have been known for some time and depriving oneself of the possibility of walking outdoors surrounded by greenery has probably made the situation even more difficult for those who live in an urban context.

For this, the Austrian designer Chris Precht and founder of Studio Precht designed the Parc de la Distance. It is one green urban space which allows a walk of about twenty minutes through a structure made with hedges and trees arranged in a spiral, inspired by the fingerprints of our hands and Japanese Zen gardens.

The park allows you to walk alone at a distance from each other, immersed in nature and in silence even in the city.

The designer wanted to give his contribution to create a space that was useful during the pandemic but also in the later stages.

In fact, now the restrictions on travel are easing, but we don't know how long we will be forced to avoid crowds and stay away between us.

Furthermore, a total or partial lockdown could be re-proposed if the infections increase again and similar measures could be adopted in other situations, for example if a new virus reappears.

Not only that: even in the absence of health emergencies that require us to physically distance ourselves from others, in chaotic, busy and noisy cities, we may need spaces to stay alone, relax and rediscover silence and peace in nature a few steps from home.

“There is beauty in solitude and in the relationship with nature that is often lacking in the city.
Sometimes you have to move away to fully connect. We live in the mountains and whenever possible we walk in the midst of the nature that surrounds us. But in the city it is difficult. Our park is designed as a silent retreat, where you can walk and meditate ”, explained Precht in describing his project.

It is therefore not a question of a park that is limited to guaranteeing distance from others only in times of pandemics, but also and above all of a place where you can rediscover the connection with nature and with yourself by being alone and surrounded by greenery even in the city, in a symbolic path towards the center.

“There is something fundamental about the spirals. A path to the center. A path to your inner self ”Precht emphasized.
