Soaked in citric acid

It is a useful remedy especially for the small rusty tools. They will simply have to be left to soak overnight in a solution of 20% hydrogen and water (200 mg of citric acid per 1 liter of water) in a container. After the necessary time has elapsed, rinse the tools and scrub them with a brush if there are still traces of rust. This remedy is also suitable for small rusty objects, such as bracelets o earrings. Remember to rinse each object and dry it with a cloth after cleaning.

Potatoes and baking soda

Cut a potato in half and then sprinkle the inside with baking soda, rub it on the affected surfaces, slicing the potato again and adding bicarbonate to continue. Rinse and dry.

How to remove rust stains from fabrics and clothes

Salt and lemon

To remove the rust spots, it is sufficient to use two simple ingredients: sale e lemon juice. To put this simple remedy into practice, which is considered very effective against rust stains, proceed as follows:

    1. Do not apply bleach, as a chemical reaction could occur that can worsen the situation and accentuate the discoloration of the surfaces. With a special brush, rubbing repeatedly, remove the stains as much as possible before proceeding to the treatment.

    5. Rinse with cold water and dry the affected surfaces very well, in order to prevent the formation of new rust.

Delicate dish soap

It is possible to remove the rust stains from clothes using dish soap (possibly ecological):



  1. Just apply a mixture of 1/4 of mild liquid dish soap and 1 cup of warm water, apply to the stain and let the solution react for at least 5 minutes. The surfactants in the cleaner will help lift the rust particles;
  2. Then blot the stain with a clean white cloth or paper towel and rinse with cold water
  3. Repeat this process until the stain is removed or until the cloth no longer absorbs the rust;
  4. Rinse the spot thoroughly with water to remove all traces of cleaning solution:

Mild homemade bleach with hydrogen peroxide

Another excellent natural remedy to remove rust stains from clothes is using the delicate homemade bleach according to Fabrizio Zago's recipe:

  • 450 ml of 12% hydrogen peroxide
  • 525 ml of distilled water
  • 20 grams of normal dish soap (better ecological)
  • 2 teaspoons of citric acid to stabilize

The solution should be mixed with a wooden spoon and, once ready, just use it on the rust stain as described above for the remedy with dish soap
