The meat from genetically engineered "super cows" can now be sold in the United States

Hear hear: you may soon be eating genetically modified beef thanks to a US Food and Drug Administration decision. No, it is not the factory of horrors. Or maybe yes

Two genetically modified beef cattle breeds produced by a major breeder are safe for human consumption. This was stated by the American FDA, referring to two breeds of cows that were modified in order to make the hair grow short and smooth.

Experts suggest that this genetic modification is "low risk" which means that Acceligen, the company that produces that breed, would not even need to seek approval to sell it.

Never before has the federal agency granted "low risk" pre-market approval to a food product from genetically modified animals.

The decision shows a commitment to use a risk-based and science-based, data-driven process that focuses on safety for animals containing intentional genomic alterations and safety for people who eat the food these animals produce, shoots Steven Solomon, director of the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine.

It is unclear when this type of meat will be made available in the United States or even how it would be labeled.

But we don't even want to know. And you?
