La California butterfly Battus philenor until recently it was at high risk of extinction but recently a biologist has intervened to save the species starting from his home garden.

These butterflies are easy to recognize because the characteristic color of their wings distinguishes them: they are black with shades of blue and light blue.

Tim Wong, a biologist at the California Academy Of Sciences, has decided to help protect these truly beautiful butterflies. He decided to start raise them in your own garden at home where there are all the ideal conditions for their growth: sunlight, pleasant temperatures and a pleasant breeze.

The biologist found that these butterflies feed on the plant known as Pipevine California, he managed to find it and started growing it in his garden just for them. He created a real paradise for butterflies in which he placed 20 caterpillars hoping that they could develop at their best.

Three years after the start of the enterprise, his butterfly garden is extraordinary and the biologist intends to continue in this way to continue to protect an endangered species. In California and in the United States in general, butterflies, starting with the Monarch butterfly, are in danger of extinction due to pesticides, climate changes and the disappearance of their natural habitats.

This story teaches us that recreating a suitable habitat in our garden can help butterflies to survive and to multiply. Between the flowers we can plant in pots, in the vegetable garden or in the garden to attract butterflies there are lavender, sunflowers, marigolds, violets, marigolds, dwarf zinnias, iberis, primroses, lilacs, chrysanthemums and roses.

The biologist has created a very popular Instagram profile where all of us, even from a distance, can admire the images of his butterflies. We too can help save butterflies by planting flowers on our balconies and in the garden, so we will attract them to their natural habitat.
