The Madonie like Holland: the flowering of Sicilian red tulips enchants again this year

Also this year in Blufi, on the Madonie, the "miracle" of the spontaneous flowering of thousands of red tulips was repeated. To protect them from the uncivilized, the Facebook group "Tulipiamoli - Let's protect tulips" was also created.

In Blufi, a town in the province of Palermo that has about 1000 inhabitants, an enchanting natural event is repeated every year. Starting from the month of March we witness the extraordinary flowering of thousands of red tulips in a field in front of the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Olio. These beautiful flowers grow spontaneously on the green lawn, giving life to a landscape reminiscent of Monet's paintings.

The flowers that bloom in Blufi, between March and May, are particularly resistant to plowing the soil, thanks to the position of the bulbs at a depth of about 50 centimeters. It is, in fact, the Early tulip (or Tulipano di Raddi, Tulipa raddii, named after the botanist Giuseppe Raddi), an allochthonous species of unknown origin.

The evocative field of red tulips attracts thousands of Sicilian and other visitors every year, curious to witness that unique spectacle that evokes the typical tulip fields of Holland.

Beauty lives in simple things… and let's not disturb it? Tulips in Madonna dell'Olio in Blufi in the Madonie.

Citizens' commitment to preserve the tulip field

Unfortunately, however, not everyone goes to Blufi to admire and photograph the flowers. There are also those punctually trampling and raiding tulips. The last episode of incivility dates back to a few days ago, when two men armed with bags tore the wonderful tulips and then took them home or probably to resell them. However, someone noticed and immortalized them and their photos made the rounds of social media.

Thus, the residents of the area have decided to take action to preserve the tulip field, posting signs with a specific invitation: "Take pictures, but let everyone be able to admire them as mother nature made them ".

But citizens have not stopped only at the signs and are demanding heavy fines for those who do not respect the area. A few days ago the Young event art association also launched the Facebook group "Let's tulip them - Let's protect tulips", open to all people in love with the flowery field near the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Olio.

Friends join the group !!!! ??

"We use this group to report, inform, create initiatives aimed at the protection of this magnificent place that nature gives us every year." - the group reads - "Let's fight the uncivilized who vandalize the place and deface it by collecting tulips."

An admirable initiative that demonstrates the love of the citizens of Blufi for Mother Nature and its wonders, too often threatened.
