The last pig: the documentary that tells the story of a repentant pig farmer

For over 10 years Bob Comis has been raising pigs. His animals were fed in a healthy and natural way, they were free to scratch, but then he took them to the slaughterhouse, where they ended up on someone's plate. But one day he thought that all of this was "distorted, perverse and wrong".

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

For over 10 years Bob Comis raised pigs. His animals were fed in a healthy and natural way, they were free to scratch, but then he took them to the slaughterhouse, where they ended up on someone's plate. But one day she thought that all of this was "distorted, perverse and wrong".

The story of Bob Comis is at the center of the documentary "The last pig", made by Allison Argo and Joe Brunette for Argo Films thanks to crowdfunding also supported by Being Animals.

“By recounting the breeder's journey, the film raises crucial questions about equality and the value of the sacredness of life. The story tells the last year of the breeding, Bob's struggle to reinvent his life, and the ghosts of those animals he killed and that will haunt him forever ", explain the authors.

Mission of the documentary that has already had an honorable mention at the 20th edition of Cinemambiente of Turin and is competing in numerous festivals around the world, is that 'help promote a change in our society's relationship with other non-human animals and leads to an increase in our capacity for compassion towards others'.

After years of slaughtering his pigs, Bob realized that something was wrong, that his relationship with the animals was not sincere.

“It was based on a lie. I felt happy next to them. And they followed me, they were intrigued by me, they were looking for a relationship. But they knew this was all a lie because I was a pig farmer and sooner or later there I would have killed. And this is unfair. After years of looking these animals in the eye, I can say that none of those looks are empty. Behind there is always someone ”, he says in The last pig.

As a result of this reflection, the former breeder became vegan, saving the lives of 250 pigs on his farm. He started growing vegetables and transformed the farm into a place where animals are no longer raised for slaughter, but spend their lives peacefully until old age and natural death.

“I no longer want to have the power to decide who lives or dies. I have decided to give up my job, my life, to live in line with my principles. It is a colossal effort. This is a terrible endeavor. But I am committed to doing it ”, she still says.
