A huge corridor useful as a passage for wild animals will be built on the 101-lane US Highway 10, located northwest of Los Angeles. The roads, and especially the huge highways, make life difficult for wild animals. These in fact roam freely on the mountains until, however, they are faced with the problem of having to cross them. This is a serious drawback that exposes them to the problem of isolation in small areas and this has a negative impact on their survival.
I puma, in particular, they accuse a lot of this situation and they risk not being able to mate and reproduce. This, according to a recent report, it could lead to extinction within 50 years.
The investment to build this huge corridor is substantial, we are talking about 87 million dollars, but it is really worth it since it could be crucial for the survival of pumas but also of many other species that populate this area.
The designers chose to create a bridge surrounded by trees which extends 50 meters above the highway. A sort of flyover, therefore, designed to blend perfectly with the mountains so that the animals do not realize that they are actually on a bridge.
The project has received some attention and funding from all over the world, and also Leonardo Dicaprio, always at the forefront for the defense of the environment and animals, he is one of the supporters.
