It has already been renamed the first oasis without cages and opened its doors on June 30 thanks to the association that in ten years of activity has removed more than 400 dogs from the streets and kennels.
In 2015, the municipal kennel is subjected to seizure, a hellish place of suffering, atrocity and decay. Balto's friends set themselves the goal of creating a shelter park to give a home to non-adopted dogs and move them from there. The right opportunity is the hectare of land that is entrusted on loan for use by the administration.
So the association launches a crowdfunding on Produzionidalbasso, managing to collect 3500 euros and another series of useful initiatives for the construction of what they themselves define "not a kennel but a place of peace and freedom: a facility where dogs they will be able to live free, without cages and in packs in full respect, as far as possible, of the dog's life cycles and behavioral tendencies ".
“We work closely with the local ASL to treat and reintroduce all strays into the area, trying to give them a dignified and free life. With the work of sterilizations we are campaigning to raise awareness of stray dogs. In addition to convinced and active animal rights activists, our group also includes dog educators who have brought experience and professionalism with the work of recovering and re-introducing strays ”, explains Chiara Valentino, president of Gli Amici di Balto.
The Refuge Park is part of the project "Zero dogs in kennels". In fact, here, there are no cages but houses, tree-lined spaces and small pools where animals can find refreshment in the summer. But not only that, after the prophylaxis the dogs that will be considered suitable will be adopted, while the phobics returned to their territory, monitored by the volunteers. The project is ambitious and eventually includes a large multifunctional center of a social nature where courses will be held to sensitize the population to coexistence with animals.
