After the killing of a local politician by six men, the families of the latter, fearing for their lives, escaped, thus leaving the small village of Mathura Arasanoor, about 75 km from Tiruvannamalai, in India completely empty.
Or rather to die of hunger and thirst they remained, for five days, 85 animals including goats, sheep, pigs, cows, calves and bulls, fortunately rescued from the Arunachala Animal sanctuary.
“We received a phone call telling us that there were animals to be rescued in a village. Supporters of the killed politician had burned down all the homes of the families linked to those responsible for the murder. So out of fear, the village was depopulated, but the animals remained there, ”he says Leslie Robinson, direttore dell’Arunachala Animal Sanctuary e Rescue Shelter.
It was precisely the supporters of the politician who warned the sanctuary that after passing through the local police, it was able to save the animals.
"Five animals died of starvation. Together with the vets we went to the village, all of them were taken to the sanctuary, after an operation that lasted four hours ”, continues the director.
Cows, calves and bulls were moved to a stable in Tiruvannamalai, where some keepers take care of them all day, while goats and sheep are among the meadows near the sanctuary.

“The rescue was a lot tiring, mainly because it was difficult to approach the animals, but due to the thinness even the cows were eventually lifted and put on the trucks. Now they are recovering and gaining weight. Fortunately, a story that had a happy ending ”, Robinson says.
