Nature is able to regenerate itself after a devastating fire, in a much faster time than we can imagine

From last fall to today, the flames have flared up in theAustralia southern have destroyed about eight million hectares of land. The fires, triggered in part by lightning and in part by man, spread to semi-arid grasslands and eucalyptus forests, completely charring the vegetation.

However, nature is able to regenerate and "rise from its own ashes" and is capable of recovering in a much shorter time than we imagine.

Already now, while the fires continue to affect the area, the plants are reacting by emitting new leaves and branches, as evidenced by the numerous images posted online by the residents.

In addition to the harrowing images that show a completely devastated environment, from Australia also come photographs full of hope, in which they perceive themselves the strength and determination of nature.

Murray Lowe took several photographs in the Kulnura area on Australia's central coast. After publication, the images went viral and the author, amazed by so much interest, took the opportunity of this unexpected popularity and decided to sell the photographs to allocate the proceeds to those who had been damaged by the fires.

Ventured out into the fire grounds today to capture some images of how the Aussie bush responds to fire, and the way it…

Le plants, which we perceive as helpless and defenseless, are in reality extraordinary beings, capable of reacting to the external environment, defending themselves and adopting incredible survival strategies.

Think that plants can lose up to 90% of their biomass and then be reborn from that "miserable" 10% that survived: something unthinkable, if applied to us humans or animals.

Secondly, some species have evolved to such a degree from be able to resist the flames and even benefit from fires, so much so as to favor them thanks to the production of resins and fuel oils.

These species have developed flame retardant seeds and see fire as an advantage, as fires destroy competition and create new spaces free to colonize.

Without taking anything away from the immense gravity of the Australian fires, the force of nature still represents hope: once the flames are extinguished, the vegetation will be able to regenerate.

Most likely in the future the landscape of these areas will be different from how it was before the fires, but it will return to be populated with luxuriant plant species, even if it will take time.
