Last night in an underground bunker, while bombs and smoke were suffocating the city outside, Mia came into the world, and in a very short time she became a symbol of life and hope.
Mia sleeps unaware of all the hell around her, holding her mother's finger. She doesn't know, but her photo is going around the world shared by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's Twitter account. She doesn't know, but she was born underground, in a bunker while outside was hell, death and destruction. She reminded everyone that life wins, always and in any case.
Mia was born on Friday evening, just before 20:30 pm, as warplanes clatter in the sky of a spiraling smoke-smothered Kiev smothered by the smell of gunpowder, while thousands of Ukrainians rushed to take refuge in the stations underground and in the bunkers built during the Cold War to escape bombing, then as now. And in one of these emergency shelters she was born, amid the screams and frightened faces of many people, unaware of the horror that surrounded her and her mother, a young woman of 23 years.
“As far as we know, this is the first time a child has been born in a bunker in Kiev,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry tweeted. “The multi-storey building is burning next to it. Russian tanks are on the road. We will call it freedom. '

The image of little Mia holding her mother in a shelter started circulating yesterday evening in the Ukrainian Telegram channels, hailed as a beacon of hope in one of the darkest moments in the history of Ukraine.
Mia is not the only girl born in these extreme conditions: another baby was born last night under a maternity ward in the basement of the evacuated hospital, a boy of 3 kg, as posted by the same hospital on the Facebook page:
