Irish photographer James Crombie has managed to create a spectacular photo of a starling of flocks that take the form of a giant bird in flight. The shot landed on the front page of The Irish Times newspaper.

Starlings are known for their choreographic "performances" in flight. Sometimes they manage to create truly hypnotic geometric designs. A couple of days ago an Irish photographer managed to immortalize a flock of starlings that is incredible, so beautiful that it ended up on the front page of the newspaper The Irish Times.

To be able to get the perfect shot, however, for James Crombie - specialized in sports photosit took several months, but it was worth it as he took a shot that depicts thousands of starlings taking the form of a giant bird in flight. The spectacular photo was taken on Tuesday evening near the lake Lough Ennell, County Westmeath, in Ireland.

"Last year my friend Colin Hogg, who lives near the lake, told me that the starlings would have given life to a fantastic choreography" - explains Crombie, who just last week won the Press Photographer of the Year Awards 2021. "They nest in the reeds around the lake and move every four or five days, at sunset, and when they move they create shapes."

The Irish photographer has traveled to Lough Ennell around 50 times in the past few weeks.

“I'm usually a sports photographer, so I've been thinking about other things for a while. I had a picture in my head. So, I kept coming back to that place to get the shot I had in my head. " says James Crombie.

Finally, last Tuesday afternoon, around 18.00pm, Crombie focused his Canon EOS-1D X Mark III and got the shot he so desired. In short, his patience and his determination have rewarded him. The photo and video of the giant flying bird created by the starlings has bounced on social media, achieving great success among users.
