The heartbreaking video of the woman nursing her baby as the female orangutan watches her tenderly from her cage.

Gemma Copeland was standing in front of an orangutan enclosure at the zoo of Schönbrunn (Vienna) when she decided to stop by for breastfeed her baby. L'orangutan female had recently lost the puppies and seeing the woman intent on holding her baby in her arms, she approached and began to observe her with a tender air.

And she remained in that position the whole time, behind the safety glass that separated her from her mother, looking her and her son in the eye and almost winking at wanting to caress him. A magical connection that thrilled Gemma and the other visitors with her:

“He got up, carried a piece of cloth to the window and sat down with me. She looked me directly in her eyes, then raised her hand as if to touch my son, I was already amazed by this beautiful creature. "

The scene was shot and posted online by Gemma herself, in a video which quickly went viral. The woman said she wanted to share it initially to contribute to the cause of breastfeeding in public but later she realized, from reading the many comments, that people were as excited as she was seeing the behavior of the orangutan.

And from that moment he decided to help the Bornean orangutans by raising funds to save them, as he specified on Instagram:

“The post and video reached over 5 million people in countries around the world. This got me thinking that if I could only raise $ 1 per display or share I would have raised over $ 5 million to help support and protect these animals the way Sol protected me while I was feeding my baby. ? I have contacted an orangutan rescue, rehabilitation and release program in Borneo and am currently waiting for a response to see how I can raise money to help them with their project ... We hope to end the destruction of the forests and the sheer horror of poaching so that the choices of subsequent generations include the freedom of these majestic animals. "

For us this video has aroused mixed emotions: if on the one hand we found it moving, on the other also sad due to the prison condition of the orangutan, forced to live in solitude inside a cage, destined for a life. in captivity.

This video, showing how capable animals are of feelings, should encourage humans to stop locking them up for entertainment by treating them as objects.
