A structure made with bamboo and over 2.000 plastic bottles which functions as both a greenhouse and a resting place for Vietnamese farmers working in the rice fields, as well as a small oasis where children can play and learn about their local ecosystem.
To help promote green lifestyles in Vietnam, the 1 + 1> 2 International Architecture Company partnered with Action for the City to create Vegetable Nursery House, thanks to a project that is also part of a unique collaboration between the governments of Vietnam and Ireland to better support the farmers of the Southeast Asian country.
The bottles used to complete the structure, which were all donated by the students and the local community, they help regulate sunlight and control the temperature inside the greenhouse. An opening in the roof guarantees the entry of water for irrigation, and, thanks to its light construction, the building can be moved to other areas according to the needs of the farmers.
The architects who designed it wanted to provide in this way an example of cooperation between rural inhabitants and urban residents, using recycled and sustainable materials in the construction of easily replicable structures. Vegetable Nursery House has been moved to an organic farm in Hanoi's Soc Son District, where it helps produce delicious vegetables.
