The little patients of theBambino Gesù pediatric hospital of Santa Marinella. All thanks to two new robots for pediatric rehabilitation that they will help every year 100 children with motor disabilities due to neurological damage, congenital or acquired.

With the help of robots “Arm hand” e “Wrist”, donated by the Rome Foundation, children aged three and over will finally be able to move your arms, hands and wrists through one fun rehabilitation.

The two robots have, in fact, a display attached to mechanical structures that are able to simulate the stimuli produced by a video game. Taking advantage of the images, the little ones are encouraged to perform movements and to assume correct postures, all in a playful way and to nothing boring.

Many times, in fact, in such small patients the rehabilitation process is difficult and complex, it is lived with anxiety and to the detriment of serenity and lightheartedness which should be key words in this delicate age group.

Both robots can be adapted to patients during growth and allow doctors to track progress. Specifically, "Arm Hand" guides the shoulder and elbow movements essential to reach the objects and the opening and closing movements of the hand necessary for the action of taking and leaving, "Wrist" interacts, on the other hand, with the movements of the wrist .

They will be used by at least 6 patients a day who will carry out sessions of about an hour and it is estimated that around 100 children will be able to take advantage of the new robots in a year.

The main task of the hospital is to resolve any serious complexities affecting patients and their families. Thanks to this double donation, also in the field of motor rehabilitation we will continue to provide increasingly high-quality answers, said the President of the Bambino Gesù, Mariella Enoc during the press conference to present the robots

The functional recovery of the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist and hand takes place through the use of two latest generation robots, demonstrating how applied scientific research represents today the main tool of progress and robotics, feared protagonist of the so-called fourth industrial revolution, can be used for the purpose of building better living conditions for the whole community, he clarified Emmanuele Francesco Maria Emanuele president of the Rome Foundation.

In short, one great news for children and their parents, demonstrating that technology is a fundamental resource when it is able to give as gifts a smile.
