In the waters of Cyprus a wonderful museum of underwater sculptures, accessible only by divers, where art is at the service of nature
Children, trees and plants populate the seabed of Cyprus, 200 meters from Ayia Napa's Pernera beach. It's 93 spectacular underwater sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor.
They belong to the MUSAN, Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa, created by the artist to induce us to reflect on the importance of an urgent reconnection with nature. And at the same time help her concretely.

The sculptural forest was in fact designed to attract marine flora and fauna. Above all the trees, deliberately arranged at different depths between 6 and 10 meters. Some weigh up to 13 tons and like the remaining sculptures, they were made with inert materials with neutral pH, precisely to attract marine life and provide them with shelter.

A strategy to enrich, over time, the biodiversity of this protected marine area. In fact, like other works by the artist, too this installation interacts with the environment evolving over time, and therefore represents a living ecological experience.
A potential glimpse of the future

But the sculptures of children, what do they have to do with it? As they play hide and seek and explore their surroundings, they point their cameras at the human race, imagining a different future, deeply connected with nature. Encouraging us to reflect and reconsider the way we relate to it.

Despite being an underwater museum, MUSAN is accessed by land, through the entrance located on the beach of Pernera, following a path that leads to a floating platform and, therefore, to the sculptures, accessible to both divers and snorkelers.
A project that intends to bring people closer to the marine environment and above all to sensitize them on the theme of its conservation and protection. Putting art at the service of nature.
