The first forest city in the world is inspired by the Maya: Smart Forest Cancun will be completely sustainable, from an energy and resource point of view, with an eye to culture and research. Utopia? No, a project by Stefano Boeri, an architect already known for his innovation Vertical Forest.
An "open city" and international inspired by the values of technological innovation and environmental quality, it will rise in Cancun, Mexico, and will be a real innovation hub, which aims to act as a beacon for the cities of the future, not only for the 'sign of home automation and connection, but also of sustainability.
University departments, organizations, laboratories and companies that are dealing with the major issues of environmental sustainability and the future of the planet in the world will find their home in the city-forest: within it, research and development centers will be created for students and researchers from the most qualified academies of the world.
“Smart Forest City - Cancun is thought of as a self-sufficient settlement from an energy point of view - you can read on the official website - A perimeter ring of photovoltaic panels and a water channel connected with an underground system to the sea will allow to feed the city in a sustainable way and to develop acircular economy as regards the use of water, a key element of the project, collected at the entrance to the city with a large dock and a desalination tower, and distributed by a system of canals, including navigable ones, which will serve the entire settlement and irrigate also the outer belt of agricultural fields ".
Then he could not miss the sustainable mobility: in fact, an articulated transport system is envisaged that prohibits both residents and visitors from any combustion vehicle, which must be left outside the city, leaving room for electric and semi-automatic systems.
Smart Forest - Cancun is anything but a futuristic idea: it is built according to the principles of Non-Deterministic Urbanism, on the basis of which great flexibility is expected in the distribution of the different architectural and building types, which will have to respond to the variability of needs urban.
The project, carried out with the contribution of the German firm Transsolar, demonstrates that a sustainable city can exist. But it must be made and kept alive by all.
