Create shelters to help homeless cats find shelter. This is the mission of the non-profit association Architects for Animals that deals with designing cat shelters truly original.
Every year in Los Angeles, the Architects for Animals association organizes an event in which all interested architects and designers can participate by presenting their ideas for building very creative cat shelters.
The rules to follow for submitting projects are very simple. Each shelter must be large enough to accommodate at least two or three cats, it must be easy to transport and fun for new guests. For example, it must allow cats to hide and climb.
Architects bring theirs into play creativeness to create ever-changing shelters in order to draw public attention to the problem of abandoned cats. In the big cities of the United States - and beyond - many cats live on the street because they are abandoned by those who do not want or can no longer keep them with them.
The cat shelter showcase event is called Giving Shelter and every year is an opportunity for raise funds to be donated to FixNation, an organization that cares for abandoned cats from Los Angeles. It is estimated that 1 to 3 million street cats live in the Californian metropolis.
The last edition of Giving Shelter took place on March 10th and was a great success from a fundraising point of view. Some of the cat shelters made by architects have been auctioned on eBay to raise money to donate to abandoned cats.
